Today’s Guest Speaker
This morning we welcome our guest speaker, Chaplain Ed Gilbert. Ed was a musician/entertainer in Nashville in the late 70’s, and early 80’s. He left the music business because of a personal struggle with addiction. After an encounter with Jesus and a new life, he became a therapist at a drug and alcohol hospital in Michigan and a minister of music at a local church. In 1998 he came to the Cadillac area. Soon the local ministerial association asked him to represent them as CAMA Chaplain at the hospital. Ed is now the head chaplain and leads the Spiritual Care Department.
Sabbath Study with Pastor Scott
Pastor Scott has been studying the sabbath as part of his sabbatical preparation. If you want to hear what he’s been learning, or if you have been yearning for some sabbath rest yourself but don’t know where to begin, join him on Sunday’s between services (9:40-10:15) from January 26 thru March 29. Please contact the church office by Monday, January 20 if you are interested so we can order you a book. The book is titled Sabbath: Finding Rest, Renewal, and Delight in Our Busy Lives by Wayne Muller and costs $10.00.
Worship During Sabbatical
Survey results have been reviewed, and a decision has been made. Zion will hold one worship service at 9:30AM beginning April 19, 2020 and going through July 5, 2020 during Pastor Scott's sabbatical. On Sunday, July 12, we will return to holding two services each Sunday.
January Lunch Bunch
January’s Lunch Bunch will take place Thursday, January 16th at 12:30 p.m. at Curley’s (Evergreen Resort). This month’s hostess is Dottie Reinertson.
Annual Congregational Meeting
Sunday, January 26, 11:35 am
Mark your calendar and make plans to attend the Annual Meeting as we review the past year and look to the upcoming year. This important meeting includes election of new Council members and approval of our 2020 Operating and Capital Budgets. Copies of the 2020 Operating and Capital Budgets will be posted on the bulletin board at church in early January.
End of the Year Giving Statements
2019 Giving Statements are available on the table outside the sanctuary. Please pick yours up today. Those who signed up for emailed statements should have received them on January 4. Please let Val know if there are any issues with your statement.
Saturday Soup for Seniors
Senior Soup Luncheon will meet Saturday, January 25th. Penny Stange will be pre-paring beef stew with corn-bread and dessert for the first gathering of the year. All seniors are welcome to come en-joy the delicious lunch and good fellowship at no charge. Sign up sheet is on the bulletin board.
Providing Transportation to Those in Need
Our January 26 "Noisy" Offering will support the purchase of bus passes for those in our local community who do not have their own transportation and struggle to have adequate funding for public transit. The money you so generously share allows the Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency (NMCAA) to give their clients bus passes for such basic errands as getting to the store or a doctor’s appointment. So, please save up your loose change and help us make a "loud noise" of caring for our local community on January 26.
Bowling and Pizza Fellowship Event
Join us for bowling and pizza on Sunday, February 2. We’ll meet at The Pines Bowling Center (5992 E. M-55) at 12:00 p.m. All ages and all bowling abilities are welcome! A free will offering will be taken at the event to help cover costs. Please sign up by next Sunday, Jan 26. The sign-up sheet is posted on the bulletin board.
Meal Help Needed
Might you be able to help with meals for Youth Group meetings this year? Help is needed to cook, serve, and clean up an evening meal each time a group meets. This is a great way to serve your church and connect with our youth! Volunteers will have the choice of having something purchased for them and ready at church that will just need to be warmed up or cooking something of their choice and being reimbursed for expenses. If you can help, let Val know.
Calling all singers!
The ensemble practices the first two Thursdays of each month at 7:00 p.m. New voices are welcome!
2020 Flower Chart
You have an opportunity to glorify God by remembering a loved one or honoring a special occasion in your life by providing flowers for Sunday worship. The 2020 Flower Chart is on the bulletin board. When the week of your choice arrives, place your order with a local florist, make payment, and ask them to deliver your flowers to the church in time for Sunday. Also, please note information for your donation on the Flower Chart or call the church office at 775-9821 so we can include the information in the Sunday bulletin.
Christ In Our Home Devotional
To assist you in spending time in prayer and meditation, our church offers free of charge the daily devotion magazine, Christ In Our Home. This devotional is available in both regular-print and large-print editions. Pick up a copy of the January through March issue for yourself and a friend or neighbor as well.
Large Print Bulletins
Large print bulletins are available on the table outside the sanctuary. Look for the red three-ring binder.
Nailya is coordinating special music provided by both members and community musicians. If you sing or play an instrument, Nailya would love to work with you to find music, practice, accompany you, or find other ways to support you in providing special music on Sunday at Zion.
Nailya prefers to connect in person or by email: email@example.com. Thanks in advance for enhancing worship through your musical gifts.
